Speaking at ASID/IIDA WI Student Career Day

March 8th, 2015 1:26 pm

I remember attending the WI Student Career Day as a student. Feeling shy and not entirely sure of my destiny, I signed up in hopes to get a clearer idea of my career options post graduation, to get exposure to professionals I would normally have no chance of hearing or even meeting, to get energized about my future. It was an experience I remember to this day.

Nine years later, I find myself addressing the new wave of students from the stage, sharing my story, my experiences.

Nine years ago, Jenny Schrank was my instructor. Today, we are proud authors of a book about personal branding, career development and networking for interior designers. We were honored when the committee co-chair reached out to us back in fall of 2014 to offer us a keynote opportunity. We agreed without a shade of hesitation.

Our book, though not officially released yet, is a vehicle to helping students, recent graduates and seasoned professionals with their branding and career concerns. We enjoy helping people succeed.

We were pleasantly surprised to see a group of over one hundred and fifty students and professionals in the audience. With such a versatile crowd, we had quite a challenge in front of us. As keynotes, we wanted to make sure that we set the stage for the day to come as well as prepare the students for the transformational career journey they are only beginning.

I sincerely hope we accomplished that goal. Based on the verbal feedback we received throughout the day, we think we did. We think we were able to instill a level of confidence in the students, open up their mind to career opportunities and prepare them for the long and exciting career journey ahead.
