Organic All Around

How do you think about organic clothing? It is a great option for those of us with allergies and higher sensitivity to chemicals. Its popularity is increasing however. Organic fashion industry has grown over 50% in the last year when it comes to the number of vendors who are interested in using natural fibers in their clothing lines. Michael Katarincic is one of those people. Over six months ago, he decided to open a fine organic living store called “Olive” in Mequon, WI. He not only carries cotton, bamboo, and other natural fiber clothing lines, but also organic bedding, shoes and accessories, as well as beauty and  skin products. Most importantly, he made a commitment to build the store using sustainable materials and finishes almost exclusively.

Michael, the owner of “Olive” did a great job applying environmentally friendly concepts in creating his business. Starting with the green construction process, which included recycling or reusing existing building components, using water based paints and wood stains, FSC-certified woods in construction of all the shelving and product displays, recycled counter tops and formaldehyde free press board cashier desk, recycled polyester carpeting and marmoleum flooring, recycled polyester wallcovering, LED lighting used indoors and out….and much more; Michael made sure that even the smallest details are done right and according to his green philosophy: all shopping bags, gift boxes and clothing tags are made from recycled paper and soy ink.

I was impressed by the amazing interiors of Olive, the product variety, and the owner’s passion and extensive knowledge on the green subject. I encourage you to visit the store via the short video available below, or better yet, make a stop in person.

Big thanks to Michael and his staff for taking the time to show me around and allowing me to document my visit on camera. Good luck!
