Inspirational cities, Las Vegas, NV

To be a good interior designer, one must keep current with the trends, or else it is very easy to fall behind and become the “last century” news. Knowing the products and trends of today is one thing, but seeing it in an application is so much more powerful. Be it decorative surfaces, flooring or wallcovering, all these materials make a much greater impression on both the specifier and the end consumer when installed. (more…)

Becoming Loose, Part I

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Wondering why some people can draw better than others? Besides the obvious reason, a natural incline or talent, the best graphic artists and illustrators put in their dues and work hard to reach the top. Luckily for those, who are not as gifted (like me) but who want to learn and are committed to becoming better at drawing, there is hope. (more…)

Not by accident, my husband and I traveled two hundred and forty miles (one way) this weekend. We wanted to get away in celebration of my birthday for once. But also, being a hospitality interior designer and enthusiast myself, I was really excited to check out this fairly new LEED Gold Certified site. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to CityFlats Hotel in Holland, MI. (more…)

In any creative field, the key to a successful project, besides great design, is timely and quality execution. Whether you design websites or interiors, it is crucial to be able to map out the process, track the progress and stay on top of each phase of the project. Many web-based as well as hard-drive downloaded software are available to help us, designers to perform our work even better.

Customize your home. Go local.

Chances are, your house is the single biggest investment of your life. I know that was the case for me. After years of renting, where the lease clearly doesn’t allow for much creativity and personalization of the space, you can finally unleash the painter, art collector, visualizer in your-new home owner-self! Truth is that when you do start making decorative adjustments to your home, you want to make sure that your money is spent right, on functional solutions, quality products, timeless designs. Unless you have an interior designer friend or a want-to-be, you’ll be best off hiring a professional to guide your through the process. (more…)

Taliesin, the shinning brow

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

In order to keep my creative juices flowing, I like to expose myself to various types of design like architecture, graphics, fine art, music. This weekend, two of my colleagues and I took a day trip to Spring Green, WI to tour Frank L. Wright’s, America’s greatest architect’s house and school of architecture. Located just west from Madison, Taliesin III is the most interesting and very well preserved symbol of Frank L. Wright’s architectural genius.

Portland – Keep it a secret

Monday, November 17th, 2008

This summer, my family and I traveled across the country to experience the difference between the east and west coasts. Since part of my family lives in up-state New York, I am quite familiar with that area. As far as the west coast goes, I have been to California (Los Angeles) and Washington (Seattle) before but never to the state of Oregon. You may say:”Why would you want to go to Oregon? There is nothing there..”. Nothing except for the fabulous, artsy, independent and inspiring City of Portland. “Keep it (the city) a secret” the residents of Portland say. “Keep it a secret as long as possible”.

Cosmopolitan Hotel

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

My husband and I tend to travel quite a bit; we go to places where we have never been before unless it is Las Vegas, of course (we know that city like our own house – we have been there WAY too many times but that’s not what this post is about). In April 2007 we decided to travel abroad to Toronto, Canada for the weekend. It was one of our best trips thus far. The weather was great, the city was awesome but most of all, we have fallen in love with the hotel we stayed in – The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Spa. Located right in downtown Toronto, it is a must to check out for anybody who values great interior design, delicious food and a relaxing atmosphere all around. (more…)
