Happy Baby Room

When Mike and Gail found out that they were expecting a second child, I was very excited for them. First of all, because they make great parents and decided to add another member to their family after seven years of raising their son, Nathan. Secondly, because I had the biggest urge to design a nursery and this was the perfect opportunity to do that! They were gracious enough to allow me to step into their lives and give them a room that is a happy, safe and playful area for Linnea to grow in.

Before the transformation, the room functioned partially as an office, partially as a storage spot. Secondary need items such as old equipment, scrapbooking stuff, seasonal clothing all found its place there. With a baby on the way, the room needed to be cleaned up and reconfigured to fit the needs of a nursery.

BEFORE

Mike and Gail wanted to keep the room scheme-free but with a contemporary flair. She preferred darker shades of pink like magenta and raspberry to soft tones. Gail’s main concerns were safety, storage and comfort. She also wanted the room to grow with Linnea and be able to adjust to her needs as she moves from the infant stage to toddler to preschool and on.

AFTER

The room was repainted with a Benjamin Moore Natura paint (zero VOC content) in French Vanilla colorway. Despite long deliberations, Mike and Gail decided to purchase a new crib (which turns into a twin bed) and a dresser, (which currently doubles for a changing table) as well as a new, fully upholstered rocker. The brightly colored carpet tiles by Interface FLOR give enough warmth and comfort underfoot without being too overpowering in the small space. To personalize the room, we went with a wall decal, which spells Linnea’s unique name as well as hand-made artwork over the dresser.

The room turned out better than expected. The nursery is a cozy and happy place where Linnea can safely grow, learn and play!

This looks amazing, great job! Crib to twin bed piece is SUCH a fantastic idea. Great choice on the colors-also not a fan of ‘typical’ baby colors:)

This post has made us recognize that we all have to take further attention of ourselves and every other.
