2015 Reading Challenge

December 28th, 2014 6:57 pm

I read a lot. Although 2014 has been a little slow in that arena. I want to change that in the new year. In fact, I am challenging myself to a Reading Challenge. And it would be cool if you wanted to join me…

What I read

I have diverse interests when it comes to reading. As an interior designer, you would think I read books on design history or theory….nope. I mean I do…sometimes. I like to challenge my understanding of the world and expand my knowledge, so I read about business, entrepreneurship, health, urban design and planning, education, human mind and its development as well as socio-economics. I also enjoy a good autobiography and of course, I read books about dogs…more specifically, books written from a perspective of a dog…..why not.

I do not read fiction.

The Reading Challenge

The challenge is this – read 50 books in 52 weeks. It’s doable, isn’t it?! Follow my progress on Goodreads. You can also start your own challenge there. I’m sure I will stumble upon new and interesting titles as the year goes on, so I don’t want to commit to all 50 titles right now.

To get me started however, here is a list of 10 that I’m the most excited about right now.

2015 Reading Challenge

  1. “Milwaukee’s Live Theater”
  2. “Happy City: Transforming Our Lives Through Urban Design”
  3. “Out Think: How to Lead a Culture of Results-Driven Innovation”
  4. “The Virgin Way: Everything I Know About Leadership”
  5. “Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else”
  6. “The Naked Presenter: Delivering Powerful Presentations with or Without Slide”
  7. “The End of Men: And the Rise of Women”
  8. “Bossypants”
  9. “Mindful Leadership: The 9 Ways to Self-Awareness, Transforming Yourself, and Inspiring Others”
  10. “The Art of Membership: How to Attract, Retain and Cement Member Loyalty”

The above list is a loose compilation of titles with no order or priority. It looks pretty good though, doesn’t it. I’m excited.

Started but didn’t finish

I get easily distracted with my reading material. There are always multiple books laying around the house started and not quite finished…So, it’s time to change the status of all those titles from “currently reading” to “read”. Here are a few:

2015 Finish Reading List

  1. “Metaskills: Five Talents for the Robotic Age”
  2. “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking”

  4. “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action”
  5. “Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar–Your Brain’s Silent Killers”
