#7 of 21 Things I want to do in 2013

#7  Grow my love of books.

Last time I checked I had 647 books in my library. That’s not including all the titles added over Christmas. I know this because I use Delicious Library, a nifty little tool that allows me to scan the ISBN code on the back of each book, and automatically enters it to my owned database.

I don’t just own these for the sake of owning. I read a lot too. I have 3-5 books started at a given moment and I read them depending on need, mood or season of the year. I write reviews of those most interesting titles, and use the content in my speaking engagements and presentations. Sometimes, I even get to connect with the author thanks to the power of the internet, social media to be specific.

Some of the titles I reviewed in 2012:

“reDesign, reCreate”

“Juggle. Rethink work. Reclaim your life”

In 2013, I wish to find enough time to read and review “Steve Jobs” biography. I have gotten it last year, but have been pushing it off for “later” all year. Why? Have you seen this book? It’s 4 inches thick!

The other thing I have not done yet, is become a published author myself. I am a blogger, that’s a fact, but to write a book would be a completely different caliber of writing. Like my friend, Mike Rohde did! So proud of him. He not only wrote the content, but also hand-illustrated every page of the “Sketchnoting Handbook”. Here is my own signed copy…

So here it is. Maybe I should write a book? Just maybe…But what would the book be about? I have some ideas…of course, I do. But if you have any insight yourself, share here. Any input will be considered.

I have been meaning to finish the Steve Jobs book. I have it as an audiobook and hardcover. I usually get in several chapters when I am on a trip and I have one coming up. It’s a biography so it gets pretty dry in some places, but there are specific parts which are a bit git wrenching and surprising. I got the hardcover so his stare will make me push to do better in my work. He never stopped pushing to do better.
