Design Star – why should you NOT care?

Reality shows have taken over the TV programming. Nearly every channel, cable or local, has its most viewed and crazy popular reality show. I remember watching the very first season of HGTV’s Design Star, which drew me in for the obvious reasons. I am an interior designer myself and wanted to see how these want-to-be TV stars reflect the industry I am building my life and career around. Is this show helping to promote the profession or to the contrary, is it suggesting a non-authentic view of who we, designers, are and what we do for a living?

Window display design

I have recently been asked to design a window display for a SNEAK PREVIEW of a Fine Furnishings Show during Gallery Night & Day event in downtown Milwaukee.

I have done merchandising for a  local home accent store in the past, but designing a catchy window display is a bit of a different story. Calling upon my interior design, merchandising, and visual presentation experience, I have taken the challenge and completed the display.

The Energy Fair

Saturday was a great day for a road trip. In celebration of the beginning of the calendar summer, my husband and I hit the road to Custer, WI, where The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) hosts an annual Energy Fair.
